Chris and Jane van Es | Wycliffe Bible Translators
Jane and Chris have been members of Woodley Baptist Church for 26 years. They began volunteering part-time for Wycliffe Bible Translators in 2018 – “A vision for a world where everyone can know Jesus through the Bible”.
Jane spent a couple of years working with candidates who were exploring Bible translation and other roles across Eurasia. It was a privilege helping people to
find the role for which God had prepared them. More recently she has been providing HR support for a smaller group who are serving minority languages in countries in West Asia. As part of this role she serves on the leadership team of the group, so the role has strategic as well as routine elements. She doesn’t really use any of the medical skills from her previous career, except perhaps being able to keep a cool head in an emergency. Chris draws on his 30 years of experience as a commercial software engineer to develop and maintain databases and spreadsheets for Wycliffe Bible Translators to make sure that donors and their donations are correctly recorded and assigned to translation programmes and partners. This is important for good governance, financial planning and donor relations.
Chris also volunteers with REinspired, leading a team of Christians from a number of local churches taking lively, engaging and creative RE lessons in Bulmershe secondary school to support and enrich the Christian part of their RE syllabus.
